چکیده

The effect o f UV-B-radiation on PSII activity o f spinach chloroplasts was analyzed by m ea suring the integrity of the herbicide-binding protein (HBP 32), by measurement o f fluorescence induction in the presence o f Diuron (DC M U ), and by m athem atical analysis o f the fluorescence induction curves. It was shown that UV-B inactivates the PSII a-centers but not PSII ^-centers. However, the possibility cannot be excluded that in addition the donor site o f PSII near the reaction center is attacked by UV-B-radiation.

Sudden exposure to solar UV-B radiation reduces net CO(2) uptake and photosystem I efficiency in shade-acclimated tropical tree seedlings.

Tree seedlings developing in the understory of the tropical forest have to endure short periods of high-light stress when tree-fall gaps are formed, and direct solar radiation, including substantial UV light, reaches the leaves. In experiments simulating the opening of a tree-fall gap, the response of photosynthesis in leaves of shade-acclimated seedlings (Anacardium excelsum, Virola surinamens...

The cyanobacterium Synechococcus resists UV-B by exchanging photosystem II reaction-center D1 proteins.

Current ambient UV-B levels can significantly depress productivity in aquatic habitats, largely because UV-B inhibits several steps of photosynthesis, including the photooxidation of water catalyzed by photosystem II. We show that upon UV-B exposure the cyanobacterium Synechococcus sp. PCC 7942 rapidly changes the expression of a family of three psbA genes encoding photosystem II D1 proteins. I...

Protection of photosystem II against UV-A and UV-B radiation in the cyanobacterium Plectonema boryanum: the role of growth temperature and growth irradiance.

Plectonema boryanum UTEX 485 cells were grown at 29 degrees C and 150 mumol m-2 s-1 photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) and exposed to PAR combined with ultraviolet-A radiation (UV-A) at 15 degrees C. This induced a time-dependent inhibition of photosystem II (PSII) photochemistry measured as a decrease of the chlorophyll a fluorescence ratio, Fv/Fm, to 50% after 2 h of UV-A treatment com...

Differential Photosynthetic Inhibition by UltraViolet Radiation in Species from the Arctic- Alpine Life Zone Author(s):

Inhibition of photosynthesis and epidermal damage resulting from ultraviolet irradiation were assessed for arctic and alpine plant species. These species were taken from a latitudinal gradient of the arctic-alpine life zone from the Andes to northern Alaska, which spans a steep change in solar UV-B irradiation (280 to 320 nm). Ecotypes and species from the Arctic, where solar UV-B flux is very ...

Net Photosynthesis, Electron Transport Capacity, and Ultrastructure of Pisum sativum L. Exposed to Ultraviolet-B Radiation.

Pisum sativum L. was exposed to ultraviolet-B (UV-B) radiation (280-315 nm) in greenhouse and controlled environment chambers to examine the effect of this radiation on photosynthetic processes. Net photosynthetic rates of intact leaves were reduced by UV-B irradiation. Stable leaf diffusion resistances indicated that the impairment of photosynthesis did not involve the simple limitation of CO(...
